A belated birthday post

Devil's Dream Cake

Devil’s Dream Cake

It’s a bit late but since it’s been my 30th birthday, I thought I should maybe write an entry on it. =)

My birthday was a bit too soon after we arrived here to really organize a big party or anything like it. I was just happy that I wasn’t that jetlagged anymore as I found the jetlag more annoying than ever before. At 11am I met up with my “possible supervisor” from Vic uni at the National Library. The National Library has just re-opened and it looks pretty cool right now. At 11am there ususally is a tour but except for my ps (I am going to shorten possible supervisor now) and me there was no one around so we got a private tour. That was pretty sweet.

Ps and I had coffee afterwards but nothing really to discuss as I am still far away from having a thesis for my PhD. He offered to help me as soon as I know what I’m about to do but for that, I really have to get a better grip on the field. So yeah, nothing new on that front. :s

Afterwards, I went up to Tina’s and Brendan’s place again where Flo told me that my birthday present of “the gang” had arrived. It consisted of an ubercute youtube video and a voucher for the NZ equivalent of amazon. =D

Then it was time to get into riding gear as Flo had planned a short one hour ride out to Makara beach. Unfortunately, by the time we got going, it was grey and cloudy. πŸ™ Still, had a lot of fun on the small, winding roads and Flo squeeing into my helmet all the time.

Got back, changed again, checked e-mails and facebook and changed again because we were about to go to Strawberry Fare for diner. As Flo doesn’t have as much of a sweet tooth as I have, he was allowed to have some proper food first. As I said, I didn’t really organize a lot but Tina, Brendan and Aaron could make it to the chocolate fest. =) We ended up having a couple of starters (wedges and bread Β with spread) and then ordered desserts. I got the Devil’s Dream cake which is acceptable as a birthday cake. =P I couldn’t even finish it as I have had too much of the starters. Tina was trying to organize a birthday balloon for me which gladly didn’t work out.

A little remark for Christine: They do have passionfruit cheesecake there. πŸ˜‰ And no worry, everybody who comes to visit us has to go there one time to give me an excuse to have more desserts.

Before we did the video, we had a lot of fun using some of the stuff you two gave us to cook a casserole (well, two actually) with garlic, red peppers, rice, onion, tomatoes, minced pork meat, carrots, spices and a lot of other stuff I don’t remember. It turned out very well πŸ™‚

Most of the takes we did for the video ended with giggling or plain laughter: Bad singing timing, bad positioning, technical difficulties, jokes about evil penguins taking over the world – the usual chaos. As you can see in the final video all of us had a hard time staying focused. Maybe some day you’ll see the outtakes – I’ve got about 20 minutes of footage left. πŸ˜‰

I totally am for a super extended version of my birthday video. πŸ™‚ Also having the “gang” laughing on tape is probably quite funny for everyone…not just the people involved. I’m glad you guys could use some of the groceries we still had.
