Day 301 – Stats 110 Oman

Oh, pleasant rest. For the first time in about 40 days, we deliberately do … nothing. That is, no traveling, no sight seeing. Just sleep, good food and a little bit of blogging as an when the mood strikes us. We did close out the day with tea and snack with the only other guests, a very cool couple from Iran. Thus, finally, there is some space to do another stats post.

Day 300 bonus – Stats 109 United Arab Emirates

This kind of did not fit in well with the day’s post, so I decided to celebrate day 300 with an add on! Hope you like it. The stats are not too relevant, since we did not really spend time in Dubai and had a lot of “special” stuff to sort out.

Day 300 – See you when we get there

To continue where the last entry left off: 440 km to Göreme. It kind of became our mantra. After breakfast and packing we just wanted to get to Cappadocia. Really, really in need for a break now. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for Göreme wasn’t that great either but going on to the Mediterranean coast might prove too long.

So we got on the bike and rode. And rode. It was mostly cold and did rain a couple of times. For lunch, we found a posh looking restaurant which was great…until our main course arrived and, once again, chicken wasn’t counted as meat so I ended up not having a main course. *sigh*

After that, we kept riding through grey skies and bad weather until Kayseri, where we took a turn to get to Cappadocia. Luckily, here the sun was shining so we rocked up on the camp ground, set up the tent and collapsed.

Day 243 – Stats 106 Thailand (and Pizza)

Today, we chilled … a lot. Shisha on the balcony, nice food all day long. Not really much to report other than my successful delivery of pizza after a nine month hiatus. Even improved my technique a little for that crispy crust …

Day 227 – Stats 108 Laos

Day 213 – Stats 107 Cambodia

Well, let’s face it, I was sick – therefore this post is up for grabs? We had one thing going that was not blobbing and sleeping: We went out to a very nice restaurant and had a very nice dinner before hitting the road again the next day. I was feeling better and better and was pretty sure it would be ok to ride again, come tomorrow. The restaurant was on the other side of the Nam Khan, reached via a rickety dry season only bamboo bridge. Nina was not convinced, but the bridge held – both ways. The food at Dyen Sabai was outstanding – easily the best fusion food in Asia so far.

Alright, so now, Cambodia. Why Cambodia and not Thailand? Well, since we are going back to Thailand once more, I thought of doing that one as a single post.

Day 173 – Stats 105 Malaysia

We have a spare Malaysia flag sticker ... any takers?

We have a spare Malaysia flag sticker … any takers?

We did … NOTHING! Well, other than lounging all day we only crawled out of our palace to have breakfast and dinner with our lovely hosts Thomas and Dui. Thus, room for another (more timely) stat post!

We have already shared our thoughts about Malaysia at length in previous posts. Therefore, just some brief observations.

What made Malaysia great for us were the amazing people we met along the way. We got free accommodation, workshop space and heaps of food from a bunch of generous peoples. Special thanks once more to Sonja and her family, Sunny, Tony, BK and of course Jonathan.

Unfortunately, we did not really find access to the country beyond that. Maybe we will come back some day, with a fresher mind and also go exploring further east. Just over 1000km feels like barely scratching the surface, now …

Day 153 – Stats 104 Indonesia

That's right, we survived Indonesia :)

That’s right, we survived Indonesia 🙂

By now, we’ve gotten a holiday “rhythm” with a nice long breakfast, some light reading before lunch, lunch and then an afternoon nap to relax from the exhaustion. 😉

Also, there is always the pool if you really need a distraction. We are coming to the end of our special trip to Thailand in a couple of days so Nina, at least, maximized here time with a book.

Which leaves time and space for me to get to the mildly overdue Indonesia summary post.

Day 118 – Overdue (Stats 103 Timor-Leste)

A lot of little things to do accumulate when we are travelling. Most of the time, we do not get through all of them in our evening downtime. Or the required facilities are not around (WiFi, Laundries etc). So the little scratches, tears and aches accumulate, until it is time to just not move, rest, watch a movie and get through our homework.

We stayed in our Probbolingo hotel for one more day. They had WiFi, a good warung across the street and bug-free beds (I murdered a lone bedbug, but I feel that we have brought that with us).

We got our mid-term plans for Indonesia to Malaysia shipping and a visit to my dad in Thailand over Christmas / New Year’s sorted out in concept. There is even time to finally do the Timor-Leste stats post. So here we go. Continue reading
