Day 159 – The Two Towers

Our first “free” day; and we spent it catching up on blogging. Through the bike maintenance and the museum visit, we were now 6 days behind. This needed to be rectified. Writing my entry went okay, Flo needs more time for his. Lunch time came and went. Luckily, I had left-overs to share so no one needed to go hangry (also Sonja’s kitchen always has food).

While Flo was working on his workshop blog post, Sonja started fixing our hiking pants. Our North face hiking pants are a vital piece of equipment and while they are still good after 5 years of use (except for the hole I created when I fell in Dili), the seams were about to give up. I could have sewn it by hand in a couple of days and probably with finger pain but Sonja owns a sewing machine and offered to reinforce the seams.

The coffee was good too ...

To make it almost unnoticeable, she looked for a colour that was close enough to the fabric…and didn’t own one. So we hopped into the car and visited one of her friends who owns about 5 kgs of thread to look for the right colour. We found it within seconds and then were invited for a tea afterwards. 🙂

Afterwards, I, again, was incredibly tired. While I had a nap, Sonja sewed all our seams and it looks great! Good as new! I even overslept the actual time that Flo and I had set to go sight-seeing…instead, when I woke up again, I needed cake from the Ministry of Coffee. Flo was lovely enough to go with my whims so Chunky Monkey it was. 🙂

From there we took a cab to KL Sentral (Central Station) and then used the trains for the first time. They are very cheap and work well. Within 10 minutes, we left at KLCC (City Center) and emerged in Suria, which is the gigantic mall at the foot of the Petronas Twin Towers. Unfortunately, all tickets to go up the towers had been sold out for today so we just went outside and took pictures of them from the ground. The sun was just starting to set so we got both views: The one in an afternoon glow and the illuminated night show. Then we actually made use of the mall to buy paper maps of the next countries and some postcards.

When we came back out, the fountain at the plaza was illuminated, too, and the water danced to the music that was playing. It was very pretty, and I could have watched the display for quite a while if I hadn’t been so hungry. It was about 8.30pm now so food was necessary. We walked towards Little India where a night market was happening and scanned everything for food. Unfortunately, a lot of it was made with meat or fish so I only had a snack of backed tofu while Flo tried a kebab. A taxi ride later, we were back home again.
