Flat and job hunting

Sorry for not updating, it’s been a stressful couple of days. Flo is sick and we’re both quite jetlagged. I’ve forgotten how long it takes to get used to a different time zone. At around 4pm, since yesterday we managed to push it back to 5 pm, we get so incredibly tired that we really can’t do anything productive anymore. We did the smart thing and stayed up till 10pm on the first night but we still have these attacks of tiredness. On Monday, we got ourselves new SIM cards so we could make phone calls in NZ. Ever since, we’ ve been out hunting. πŸ™‚ Flatwise, we finally get a grip on what we actually want. We have two option go for a furnished studio within central Wellington or for a one to two bedroom flat a bit further out. Furnished would be good as we don’t own any furniture but studio means it’s really just one room, often no more than 20 square meters and an additional bathroom. So with a bed, a desk, a wardrobe and a kitchen wall it is quite full already before two people with 4 suitcases, a computer and 20kg of books move in. Also, it is rather expensive. The other option is to get an unfurnished flat. We’ve been looking at options in Northland and Newlands which is not too far out and there are buses running regularly. We will have a couple of viewings there today and tomorrow. Also, by chance, a one bedroom apartment showed up on trademe just across the street from Tina’s and Brendan’s place where we are staying right now. We went there yesterday and it looks okay. One bedroom flat means: A bedroom, a lounge, a kitchen and a bathroom…lots of space for us compared to the studios. It is next to the motorway though but inside it wasn’t that much of a problem. We might move in there until next February. The landlord told us that in central Wellington, you have a fixed-term contract from February to February but the current tenant needs to get out because she’s got a job overseas so we could take over her contract until next February. After that, we’d have to rent it for one more year. February should be enough though to figure out where we’re actually based in Wellington. Where Flo’s work will be, if I need to go up to uni or down to the library a lot etc. So this flat really is an option. Jobwise, Flo’s been applying for a couple of them by now…have to wait and see. Flo has his first job interview on Monday and he’s got a haircut to look neatly. πŸ™‚
